Anti-Wrinkle Injections

AESTHETIC TREATMENTS

We currently offer anti-wrinkle injection treatments with Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) for forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. It can also be used to treat other areas, for example, bunny lines (wrinkles on the nose), lip lines, a gummy smile, to raise the corners of the mouth and neck lines.

How do Anti-Wrinkle injections work?

A highly effective treatment for many ageing concerns, Anti-Wrinkle Injections are the most requested aesthetic treatment in the UK. They work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to our facial muscles, inhibiting the constant muscle contraction and relaxation that occurs as we squint, frown and smile.

Performed by our highly experienced doctor, dynamic wrinkles are smoothed and softened without facial expression being lost. Often Anti-Wrinkle Injections can be combined with dermal fillers for the optimal result.

  • Forehead or glabellar lines, also known as the ‘elevens’, that appear between your eyebrows
  • Frown lines or furrows that form on the brow
  • Crow’s feet or laughter lines that appear next to the eyes
  • Bunny lines or nasalis lines that occur at the side of your nose
  • Smoker’s lines, also known as lipstick lines, which form from the repetitive movement of the mouth as we talk, pout, smile or eat
  • A downturned mouth can be lifted by injecting into the muscle that is pulling the corners of the lips down
  • Overdeveloped masseter muscles can make the jaw look too wide. Injecting into these powerful muscles can slim the jaw. They can also be used to address bruxism or teeth grinding
  • Excessive sweating can be treated by injecting into the overactive sweat glands in the armpit
  • A gummy smile is when too much gum tissue shows above the top teeth which can be reduced by relaxing the muscles between the nose and mouth
  • Vertical neck lines can be softened and smoothed by injected into the platysma muscles

Anti-Wrinkle Injections FAQs

People suffering from a few rare medical conditions, for example, Myasthenia Gravis are not suitable for the treatment. Pregnant or breast feeding women or those with an egg allergy, should not receive this treatment.

Anti-wrinkle treatment has been used for over 30 years and is very safe when administered by qualified medical professionals. As with all procedures, there is a very small risk of complications such as infection or bruising. In a very small percentage of people having the treatment, the effects of the injection can spread further than wanted leading to a temporary lowering of the brow line or eyelid for example. In these extremely rare occurrences, this resolves within a few weeks.

Anti-wrinkle treatment begins to take effect within the first few days of the treatment and can take up to 3 weeks to see the full effects. It usually starts to wear off within 12 weeks, with effects lasting 3-5 months on average. After a period of repeated treatments, some people find they require less frequent appointments as they have ‘broken the habit’ of the frowning which lead to the furrows and wrinkles in the first place.

Following anti-wrinkle treatment, you should stay upright and avoid touching your face for 3 to 4 hours. You should not do any exercise on the day of the treatment and you should avoid facials, laser treatment, chemical peels or sun beds for 2 weeks after treatment. There is usually some redness at the site of the injections which will settled within 20 minutes. Very occasionally some people experience some minor bruising which will settle in a few days.
